Amtel introduces software for Remote Virtual Control Center

For gated communities with multiple entrances, Amtel introduced a suite of software programs that allows a central control center to manage all operations at all entrances.

The Virtual Control Center Software (VCCS) can manage up to 4 entrances. Each entrance can be manned or un-manned (Virtual). Each entrance has one Resident Entry Lane, with automated Hands-Free Access for all residents. It also has a visitor lane that can be supported by a guard in the lane or can have a “Virtual” Entry Control Tower in the lane that performs all the same functions as the guard in the lane. If exit control is desired, one can install “Virtual” Exit Control Towers for automated exit screening of visitors, while residents can be screened automatically also in the resident exit lane.

In addition to full entry and exit control of all traffic at all entrances, the VCCS also integrates CCTV cameras at each entrance. Typically one camera is positioned to view the visitor, one is positioned to view the visitor vehicle, one monitors the traffic in the Resident Entry lane and the fourth camera monitors the traffic in the exit lanes. Data from these cameras is fully integrated with the VCCS functions and is stored two different ways:

  • Full Motion Video on the PC memory and

  • Freeze Frame photos of every visitor activity as part of the Visitor System Log.

All communication between the entrances and the Virtual Control Center is over Wireless or Wired Ethernet communication protocols, including the use of VoIP audio intercom stations. For more information click here

Proprietary or Open - What format should be used for ID cards?

In the access control industry the Wiegand protocol is the most commonly used format in proximity technology for ID cards and readers. However many Dealers and End users are not sure whether to use the open standard (26 bits) or proprietary formats. The drawback for the generic (26 bit) open standard is in the fact that the number of different ID codes available is limited. With the number of access control companies using the standard open format, the chances of duplications of ID codes are higher each time. Contrary to this the proprietary formats offer higher security as the codes are controlled by the single access control manufacturer, thereby considerably reducing the risk of duplication and security violation. Amtel uses the proprietary "secured format" (30 bits) for all its access control systems.

Amtel receives large award for RFID tracking of fleet of vehicles in Middle East

A major contractor in United Emirates is installing Active RFID tags on all equipment in its large fleet with controls at all 14 different entrances and exits throughout the country. Since this contractor is involved in large earth-moving projects, it uses large and complex machinery that is transported on specialized flat-bed trucks. Each such truck may hold up to 5 different pieces of equipment, each of which will have an individual tag. The system at each entrance will track all the equipment on the vehicle and keep a nationwide inventory of the status and availability of each of these pieces of equipment. The system uses an industrial tag with a 5 year battery life and capable of a permanent installation on any metal surface. Each entrance will have multiple readers that will ensure pickup of al the tags on the passing vehicles in lanes that are up to 24 feet wide. The tags are designed to handle the wide temperature range common in these countries and handle the rigors of heavy machinery that is involved in rugged, high vibration applications.
